The Polo Club of Atlanta began in 1986,
when it’s President,
Pat Domenicone, brought together a group of investors to
develop the Polo Fields, a world class polo playing field and golf course
located north of Alpharetta, GA. Pat had a vision to build a community
around the playing field and golf course, and today over 1,000 homes exist
in The Polo Golf and Country Club. It is hard to believe that such a rural
setting – complete with rolling, green hills and the sedating smell of
freshly mown hay – is so close to the city.
Over the years, the Polo Club of Atlanta
hosted several players and teams from Europe and South America. His Royal
Highness Prince Charles and the British Polo Team, headed by Major Ronald
Ferguson, have played at the Polo Fields.
While the popularity of the sport has not
faded, the unexpected, tragic death of Pat Domenicone in September 2002 has
changed the course of The Polo Club of Atlanta. Pat died unexpectedly of a
heart attack while playing polo in the final stages of one of the many
tournaments he hosted, and is missed by his family, friends and the polo
community.

Pat’s children, Kim and Michael, decided to
keep the Polo Fields, and make the
facility available for the enjoyment of others. In addition to charitable
Polo events, the field is used for sporting events and corporate outings,
reunions, company picnics and fund raisers, to name a few. The stable area
is used for boarding and pony parties, complete with its own petting zoo,
picnic and play area.

Kim Domenicone has been involved with horses
since 1982, and was the Director of Polo for many years. Kim has been active
in horse showing events for hunter / jumpers, competing successfully at the
national level under the watchful eye of professional trainer Terry Brown,
of Canton, GA.
Kim’s love of horses and other animals,
coupled with the great facility, gave her the idea to start sharing the
excitement by offering access to pony parties, a petting zoo and the rest of
the facility. This gets children involved at a young age and gives them the
opportunity to ride, play and learn about a variety of animals. There is a
certain peace and tranquility for all to enjoy at our beautiful facility and
around our friendly, hand raised animals.
